Preparing Your Application for Admission by Motion to the Wyoming State Bar
Please view our Frequently Asked Questions pdf.
Begin by reading and becoming familiar with the Rules & Procedures Governing Admission to the Practice of Law in Wyoming.
Then print and follow the Motion Application Checklist. Follow each step carefully, making sure to read all instructions completely.
All applicants have the same filing deadline; motion applicants are considered in conjunction with the administration of the bar examination. The deadline for consideration with the July examinees is March 1. The deadline for consideration with the February examinees is October 1 of the previous year. Your complete application must be filed with (received by) the Clerk of the Wyoming Supreme Court by or before the deadline. Applications received after the deadline (regardless of postmark) will be returned to you. There is no late filing deadline.
Ensure that you have been actively practicing for five of the last seven years in an eligible jurisdiction. Please be certain that you familiarize yourself with Rule 302 of the Rules & Procedures Governing Admission to the Rules & Procedures Governing Admission to the Practice of Law in Wyoming.
It is your burden to demonstrate that your jurisdiction grants bar admission without bar examination, including a local essay, administration of the MBE or any performance test, to attorneys licensed in Wyoming on the basis of practice in Wyoming. You should be prepared to submit a copy of all pertinent rules in your jurisdiction.
Application fees will not be refunded to applicants who have applied from ineligible jurisdictions, but they may apply their application fee toward the next scheduled bar examination.
