Mr. John A. MacPherson
John A. MacPherson is of Counsel with the firm of MacPherson, Kelly & Thompson, LLC in Rawlins, Wyoming. He received a B.S. Degree from Regis College in 1964, and received his Juris Doctorate Degree, graduating with honors, from the University of Wyoming, School of Law in 1967. He was a staff member, editor and contributor to the Wyoming Land and Water Law Review. Following his graduation from Law School, he returned to his home town of Rawlins, Wyoming, where he first practiced law with the Honorable Clarence A. Brimmer and the Honorable Michael T. Golden, and later with his wife Catherine MacPherson and Kermit C. Brown.
John is a Charter Member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), a former Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Wyoming State Board of Law Examiners (1994-2000), advisor to the Wyoming Judicial Nomination Committee, Hearing Officer, Wyoming Board of Medicine, a Member and Trustee of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation (1975-1993), the Wyoming State Bar Foundation, where he served both as a board member and President (1993-1997), a United States Magistrate (1971-1975 and 1979-1985), President of the Carbon County Bar Association (1983-1995), and a Wyoming State Bar Commissioner (1970-1971).
He has personally held various ranching, livestock and real estate development interests. He is a former member of the Regis College Alumni Board (1998-2002) and an ex-officio member of the Wyoming Law School Liaison Committee (1998-2000). He is currently a member of the board of directors of the Rawlins National Bank, Rotary Club, Elks Club, and related civic and community organizations. He has previously served as a presenter to the Wyoming State Bar and other continuing legal education seminars.
His practice emphasizes civil litigation and real estate transaction. He has been listed as one of Wyoming’s leading real estate lawyers in Chambers and Partners, USA publication and has also been named as a Super Lawyer in the area of real estate by Mountain States Super Lawyers. He represents significant ranching interests and various energy companies seeking to acquire wind leases and numerous landowners in their negotiations with wind companies involving wind rights and wind leases.
