Mr. Thomas W. Lyons

Thomas Lyons is a partner at Strauss, Factor, Laing & Lyons in Providence, Rhode Island where he practices civil litigation, particularly products liability defense, commercial litigation and civil rights. He is a past president of the Rhode Island Bar Association and a past member of the Executive Committee of the National Conference of Bar Presidents. He is currently a member of the ABA Task Force on the Future of Legal Education, the Rhode Island chair for the American Bar Foundation and a director of the Rhode Island Bar Foundation. Mr. Lyons is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the Rhode Island Bar Foundation. He is the chair of the Rhode Island Bar Association’s Technology Committee. Mr. Lyons is a past chair of the Superior Court Bench/Bar Committee and the Model Civil Jury Instructions subcommittee and a past editor of the Rhode Island Bar Journal. Mr. Lyons has served on the Rhode Island Supreme Court Task Forces on Electronic Filing, Indigent Defense and User-Friendly Courts. He has received the “Civil Libertarian of the Decade” and “Civil Libertarian of Year” awards from the Rhode Island affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union. Mr. Lyons has been named a Rhode Island “Super Lawyer” in the area of products liability defense from 2007-2012. He has received writing awards from the Rhode Island Bar Journal. Mr. Lyons makes frequent presentations on “The Future of the Practice of Law” to bar groups around the country. He has published numerous articles on a variety of topics and has prepared the Rhode Island chapter of the Defense Research Institute’s compendium, “Products Liability Defenses.”
