Mr. Paul Robert DeMuro

Paul DeMuro is one of the leading attorneys in the country on health reform issues, having written and ‎presented extensively on many of its key areas, while advising healthcare clients across ‎the country on numerous issues, such as clinical integration, biomedical informatics, ‎health information technology (HIT), health information exchange (HFE) and other health reform issues affecting consumers, employers, ‎healthcare providers, and health plans.‎

An economist by education, Paul is a CPA, who holds an MBA (Finance) and an MBI (Biomedical ‎Informatics). He graduated from the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis in 1979, where ‎he was a member of the Board of Editors of the Law Review. ‎

Retiring from the Latham & Watkins law firm in 2012, Paul accepted a National Library of Medicine post-‎doctoral fellowship in the PhD program in Biomedical Informatics at the Oregon & Health & Science ‎University School of Medicine, Department of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology, where he ‎focuses his research on the translation of healthcare quality to cost-effectiveness, clinical integration, ‎HIT, and other health reform topics. Paul is Special Counsel with the Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt law ‎firm in Portland.‎

A member of the Health Law Section of the Wyoming State Bar, Paul also is former Chair of the ABA ‎Health Law Section and the ABA Joint Committee on Employee Benefits. He is a fellow of the American ‎Bar Foundation, the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), and the American ‎Academy of Medical Practice Executives. He is a member of the American Medical Informatics ‎Association, where he serves on its Finance Committee, its Ethical, Legal & Social Issues Working ‎Group, and its Journal’s (JAMIA’s) Student Editorial Board. He is a member of the International Bar ‎Association, the American College of Healthcare Executives, the AICPA, and numerous other ‎professional organizations. He is certified in Healthcare Compliance, and was formerly Vice-Chair of ‎the HFMA’s Principles & Practices Board.‎

He has penned or co-penned over 100 publications and delivered approximately 350 presentations around the ‎world. He has been recognized by Chambers USA with National and California rankings. He has or has ‎had recognition/listings in Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in American Law, The Best Lawyers in America, ‎Super Lawyers, Expert Guides, Law Dragon, Nightingale’s Healthcare News, The National Law Journal, ‎the Los Angeles Business Journal, and others.‎

Paul holds Certificates of Advanced Technical Study from the HFMA in Mastering Healthcare ‎Accounting and Finance, Managed Care, and Patient Financial Services.‎

Paul is a member of the Wyoming Bar, and is admitted to the Bars of seven other jurisdictions. ‎

He resides in Wilson, Wyoming, where his youngest daughter is a sophomore in the local high school.‎
