The course will cover what is—and is not—appropriate inquiries for hired experts in federal litigation. The lecture and course material will cover the strategic, tactical, and ethical duties of lawyers in presenting expert testimony to the Court. Particular attention will be directed to how the Supreme Court has previously used expert opinion in prior cases adjudicating Second Amendment claims. Emphasis will be placed on presenting evidence that will withstand the rigors of a Daubert Hearing, as well as the professional standards of the academy. • Guest Lecturer: Historian Clayton Cramer. Cited in Heller and McDonald, and numerous lower court decisions. Mr. Cramer is also a recognized expert on exposing academic fraud related to Second Amendment research. (Approximately 15 minutes of the one hour allotted for the course. Mr. Cramer is not an attorney, so I am only requesting 45 minutes of CLE credit. If his time is eligible, please let me know and I will resubmit the application for 60 minutes.) • Readings: Listed on the program's page on the FRC's website, https://firearmsresearchcenter.org/events/expertsinsecondamendmentlitigation/ I am also attaching the PDF of the original CLE application. |
