EQUAL JUSTICE WYOMING

Equal Justice Wyoming helps eligible Wyoming residents connect with legal resources and find ways to address their legal needs through coordination of a network of legal aid providers and pro bono attorneys across the state. Equal Justice Wyoming also provides support and resources for individuals representing themselves in court through information, forms, and resources available at equaljustice.wy.gov.
LEGAL AID OF WYOMING
Must income qualify – civil law only
Legal Aid of Wyoming is a statewide, non-profit law firm providing assistance to low-income citizens of Wyoming in civil legal matters. A tribal advocate is also on staff to provide services to members of the Wind River Indian Reservation.
Hotline callers must go through a screening process to ensure eligibility for services. After being screened and qualified, callers are able to speak to an attorney, get legal advice, and apply for extended services.

TETON COUNTY ACCESS TO JUSTICE CENTER

Teton County Access to Justice Center is a self-help resource center and offers free legal services to income-qualified persons in Teton County.

UNIVERSITY OF WYOMING COLLEGE OF LAW LEGAL CLINICS

The Civil Legal Services Clinic assists clients with a wide range of civil legal needs, including housing, expungement, consumer rights, education, veterans’ service-connected disability benefits, and other public benefits laws. - Defender Aid Program – (307) 766-3223
The Wyoming Defender Aid Program is a statewide legal assistance program for indigent persons convicted of crimes. One of the goals of the program is to provide quality appeals representation to persons convicted of felonies in Wyoming State courts. - Estate Planning Practicum – (307) 766-6441
The Estate Planning Practicum provides legal services, including simple wills and estate planning advice to low income individuals in Wyoming. The Practicum’s mission is to help its clients maximize control over their end of life decisions and to secure their families’ future in the event of incapacity or death through the drafting of wills, powers of attorney, and advanced health care directives.

This clinic handles cases including: divorce, child custody, domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault protection orders, guardian ad litem appointments in juvenile and domestic relations cases, representation of children or parents in child abuse and neglect cases, termination of parental rights, and other civil actions involving children.
Natrona County Court Navigator
The goal of the Natrona County Court Navigator Pilot Project is to provide increased access to justice for self-represented litigants.

WYOMING COALITION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT

The Coalition represents low income victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking. Family law, housing, education immigration, and economic issues with an emphasis on safety and self-sufficiency. The Coalition is a statewide program, providing holistic legal services to victims in every county of Wyoming.

WYOMING STATE BAR MODEST MEANS PROGRAM
Must income qualify – reduced fees apply
The Modest Means Program (MMP) provides low-cost legal assistance to individuals who do not qualify for free legal services, but cannot afford the expertise of attorneys at the standard rate. Attorneys participating in the program agree to assist Modest Means Program clients for no more than $100 an hour and no more than a $1,000 retainer (if necessary).
Who is Eligible?
Citizens whose household incomes are between 200% – 300% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
How Does the Program Work?
- Complete the Modest Means Program Client Application.
- Fill out the application online OR
- Download the printable form, complete it, and return it to the Wyoming State Bar (see below).
- The MMP Program Coordinator will review your application to ensure you meet the income qualifications.
- Once approved, the MMP Program Coordinator will find an attorney willing to meet with you for an initial consultation.
- After the initial consultation, the attorney will decide whether he/she would like to assist you. If the attorney wishes to assist you, you will enter into an attorney/client relationship. If the attorney does not wish to assist you, you will be referred back to the MMP and another attorney will be found for you.
