Modest Means Program

The Modest Means Program (MMP) is a reduced fee referral program. The Wyoming State Bar recognizes the large unmet legal need in Wyoming communities. The MMP will help fill the gap by making legal services accessible to lower and moderate income people who are ineligible for legal aid. Participating attorneys would agree to charge the client no more than a $1,000 retainer and $100 per hour. Filing fees and other out-of-pocket costs would be paid by the client.

Benefits of Participation

For attorneys who are working to establish or build their practice, this is a great way to get your practice off the ground and build a solid base of clients. This program is the perfect opportunity for one-on-one client interaction you may not otherwise get in your daily practice. It may also provide a chance for courtroom experience as well as an opportunity to hone your skills relating to client control and managing client expectations. This program will help garner public support for the legal profession. The MMP fills a genuine legal need in your community.

Practice Areas

Uncontested Divorce, Child Support, Custody, Bankruptcy, Collections, Guardianships, Tenant Issues, Elder Law (Conservatorship, Power of Attorney and Wills), Minor Criminal Matters, Matters Involving Veterans

Filling the Gap

Wyoming legal aid service providers take certain cases based on an income threshold of 200% of Federal Poverty level. The MMP will fill the gap between 200% – 300% of Federal Poverty level. For example, a family of four with a total income of $48,500 – $72,750 would qualify for the MMP.
