Bar Counsel Review and Oversight Committee

The Review and Oversight Committee oversees the Office of Bar Counsel, including preparation of the annual budget, hiring and evaluation of Bar Counsel, and providing necessary approval to initiate an investigation in the absence of a formal complaint, filing of formal disciplinary charges, and review of Bar Counsel’s decision to dismiss a complaint following investigation. Appointment: Wyoming Supreme Court. Term: Three years.

Board of Continuing Legal Education

The purpose of this board is to set and interpret rules and policies concerning mandatory continuing legal education for lawyers who practice in Wyoming. The board also certifies accreditation and reporting procedures. Appointment: Wyoming Supreme Court. Term: Three Years.

Board of Law Examiners

The purpose of this board is to administer the state's bar examination and to investigate and recommend candidates for admission to practice law in Wyoming. Appointment: Wyoming Supreme Court. Term: Three Years.

PLEASE NOTE: Rule 106 of the Rules and Procedures Governing Admission to the Practice of Law state:

All communications to or with the Board or any member thereof relating to pending applications for admission on motion or applications to take the bar examination or regarding the results thereof or eligibility for admission to the bar examination, and all communications with either the Board or any member thereof relating to waiver of any part of these Rules, whether by an applicant or by any person or agent acting for or on the behalf of an applicant, shall be transmitted through the office of the Bar unless otherwise directed in writing by the chair of the Board.

Board of Officers & Commissioners

The affairs of the Wyoming State Bar shall be managed and directed by the Board of Officers and Commissioners consisting of the four (4) officers and the immediate past president, all of whom shall be members-at-large of the Board of Officers and Commissioners, and nine (9) commissioners, one (1) from each judicial district. The rights and powers of the members-at-large of the Board of Officers and Commissioners shall be the same as those of the commissioners. The chair of the Young Lawyers Section shall serve as an ex officio, non-voting member of the Board.

Board of Professional Responsibility

The Board of Professional Responsibility, made up of six lawyers and three non-lawyers, serves as the hearing body for all attorney discipline matters. The board is required to approve any motions for stipulated discipline. The board may issue private reprimands and for cases of more serious misconduct warranting public censure, suspension or disbarment, make a written recommendation to the Wyoming Supreme Court, the only body empowered to order public discipline. Appointment: Wyoming Supreme Court. Term: Three years.

Character & Fitness Committee

The purpose of this committee is to investigate the character, fitness and moral qualifications of an applicant for admission. Upon receipt of such a request, accompanied by all information regarding the applicant as obtained by the Board of Law Examiners, the Committee shall conduct such investigation as it deems necessary in order to report its recommendation to the Wyoming Supreme Court.

Civil Pattern Jury Instructions Committee

The purpose of this committee is to periodically review the civil pattern jury instructions to ensure that they accurately reflect Wyoming law. Appointment: President of the Wyoming State Bar. Term: Three Years.

Client Protection Fund Committee

This committee was established pursuant to Article XI of the Wyoming State Bar ByLaws. This committee receives, holds, manages and distributes funds received through the Board of Commissioners of the Bar and uses those funds to help reimburse losses caused by members of the Wyoming State Bar in the practice of law. Appointment: President of the Wyoming State Bar. Term: Three Years.

Continuing Legal Education Committee

The basic task of this committee is to plan, sponsor and administer continuing legal education seminars for the Wyoming lawyers on a statewide basis. Appointment: President of the Wyoming State Bar. Term: Three Years.

Criminal Pattern Jury Instructions Committee

The purpose of this committee is to periodically review the criminal pattern jury instructions to ensure that they accurately reflect Wyoming law. Appointment: President of the Wyoming State Bar. Term: Three Years.

Editorial Committee

The purpose of this committee is to offer assistance to the editor of the Wyoming Lawyer with articles on substantive law and to provide advice as needed on policy decisions. Appointment: President of the Wyoming State Bar. Term: Three Years.

Fee Arbitration Committee

The purpose of this committee is to administer the Wyoming State Bar’s fee arbitration program. Appointment: Wyoming Supreme Court. Term: Three Years.

Juvenile Pattern Jury Instructions Committee

The purpose of this committee is to periodically review the juvenile pattern jury instructions to ensure that they accurately reflect Wyoming law. Appointment: President of the Wyoming State Bar. Term: Three Years.

Law School Liaison Committee

The purpose of this committee is to serve as a liaison between the Wyoming State Bar and the University of Wyoming College of Law. Appointment: President of the Wyoming State Bar. Term: Three Years.

Legislative Developments Committee

The purpose of this committee is to review proposed legislation and offer information to legislators regarding bills which may impact the legal profession. Appointment: President of the Wyoming State Bar. Term: Three Years.

Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation Trustee

Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee

The Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee, made up of nine lawyers and four non-lawyers, serves as the hearing body for all proceedings relating to the unauthorized practice of law by non-lawyers. The committee may approve stipulated cease and desist agreements and, in cases where a hearing is necessary, may recommend that the Wyoming Supreme Court take appropriate action to protect the public, including issuing an injunction, ordering payment of restitution and assessing fines. Appointment: Wyoming Supreme Court. Term: Three years.

Uniform Laws Commission

The purpose of this commission is to work for more effective laws in Wyoming by alerting the Governor of possible conflicts or inconsistencies among statutes. Appointment: Governor of Wyoming. Term: Indefinite.

WyLAP Advisory Committee

The Wyoming Lawyer Assistance Program (WyLAP) exists to protect the interests of clients, litigants and the general public from harm caused by impaired attorneys or judges; assist impaired members of the legal profession to begin and continue recovery; and educate the bench, bar and law students regarding the causes of and remedies for impairments affecting members of the legal profession. The WyLAP Advisory Committee supervises WyLAP and its Director.
