FORMER COUNTY ATTORNEY RECOGNIZED WITH CHAMPION OF JUSTICE AWARD

CHEYENNE – The Wyoming State Bar is pleased to announce that former Crook County Attorney Joseph M. Baron is the recipient of a 2026 Champion of Justice Award. Sundance lawyer and former colleague of Baron’s, DaNece Day, presented the award last week at the Access to Justice Luncheon which was held in conjunction with the Bar’s Annual Meeting & Judicial Conference in Casper.
The nomination for the award was also submitted by Day.
The criteria for the Champion of Justice Award are legal advocacy, impactful legal initiatives, leadership and mentorship, community engagement and enduring impact. These criteria aim to recognize individuals or firms who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, leadership, and impact in advancing justice.
Baron has been a Wyoming lawyer since 1986. He has spent his legal career serving the citizens of Crook County, mentoring other attorneys, serving his church and family, honoring service members, fighting for an endangered species (the Northern Long-Eared Bat) and preserving all that is good about life in rural northeast Wyoming. Baron is a graduate of Moorcroft High School and the University of Wyoming College of Law. He served as the Crook County Attorney for 35 years. He knows nearly every citizen by name and wants them to not only feel safe but free to enjoy the lives they created for themselves.
Baron’s unwavering commitment to fairness and justice will stand as an example for prosecutors in Wyoming for generations.
