Hon. Marilyn Kite Receives Judicial Excellence Award
CHEYENNE – The Wyoming State Bar and the Wyoming Supreme Court are pleased to announce that the Honorable Marilyn S. Kite (Ret.), is this year’s recipient of the Larry L. Lehman Award for Judicial Excellence. The award was presented at this year’s Annual Meeting & Judicial Conference, which took place September 9 – 11th in Jackson, Wyoming.
The award was presented by Chief Justice E. James Burke. The Lehman Award is given in memory of Justice Lehman, who died in 2004, and is remembered for his tireless efforts to improve the operation of the court system to provide greater access to justice for all Wyoming citizens.
Kite received her B.A. from the University of Wyoming in 1970 with Honors and her J.D. from the University of Wyoming Law School in 1974. She served as Senior Assistant Attorney General for the State of Wyoming from 1974 through 1978. She entered private practice when she joined the law firm of Holland & Hart in 1979, and she was a Partner in the Jackson Office until her appointment to the Wyoming Supreme Court. Governor Jim Geringer appointed Kite to the Wyoming Supreme Court in 2000, and she retired this past August.
In presenting the Lehman Award to Justice Kite, Chief Justice Burke commended her for her leadership not only at the Supreme Court but also amongst the judiciary. He also commended her for her contributions to Wyoming’s system of justice.
