Attorneys and Judges to Gather in Jackson
CHEYENNE – The Wyoming State Bar today announced that it will be hosting its 2019 Annual Meeting & Judicial Conference at Jackson Lake Lodge in Moran, Wyoming, October 1-4, 2019. The meeting is a combined gathering of the Wyoming State Bar and the Wyoming Judiciary. Three-hundred attorneys and judges are expected to be in attendance.
This year’s Annual Meeting & Judicial Conference will feature two full days of judicial education for District Court and Circuit Court judges throughout Wyoming. The conference will also offer two and a half days of quality educational programs for Wyoming lawyers.
The Bar is thrilled to have Todd Melnik, a criminal defense attorney from Los Angeles, as its keynote speaker for this year’s Annual Banquet, which is not open to the public. Melnik will discuss the special circumstance homicide case featured in the Netflix documentary Long Shot, which features a man arrested for murder he insisted he did not commit. Melnik built the case for innocence around raw footage from the popular TV show “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
Melnik graduated from the Ohio State University in 1984 and then earned his Juris Doctor from Willamette University in 1987. He has tried over 170 cases, with 95% of his practice focusing on state prosecutions and 5% for federal cases, Appeals and Federal Writs of Habeas Corpus. Melnik began his career with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office trying cases from DUI’s to murder. He began his TV career as a daily legal commentator for KABC-TV the day after OJ Simpson became a fugitive, and then moved on to shows for Paramount Pictures and CNN. He has appeared on 60 Minutes, Good Morning America, The Today show, Network news shows and ESPN.
“Our Annual Meeting serves as a unique opportunity for Wyoming’s lawyers and judges to get together and not only learn and conduct business, but to also network Wyoming-style,” said Weston Graham, Sheridan attorney and President of the Wyoming State Bar.
Anyone wishing further information about the Annual Meeting & Judicial Conference should contact Sharon Wilkinson, Executive Director, at (307) 432-2102.
