Barrash Receives Pro Bono Award
CHEYENNE – The Wyoming State Bar is pleased to announce that Michael Barrash, an attorney from Cheyenne, has received one of two 2015 Pro Bono Awards for Legal Services for Indigent Clients. Chris Jorgenson, Staff Attorney and Pro Bono Coordinator at Equal Justice Wyoming, presented the award last week during the Bar’s Annual Meeting & Judicial Conference in Jackson, Wyoming.
The nomination for the award was submitted by Ray Macchia, Executive Director of Legal Aid of Wyoming, Inc.
Barrash has been volunteering with Legal Aid of Wyoming since his retirement in 2014. He has assisted in research and the drafting of complex pleadings and legal issues. Barrash has helped Legal Aid of Wyoming successfully defend clients in various litigation cases. In addition to helping Legal Aid clients, Mr. Barrash acts as a mentor to the staff attorneys and interns.
In 1985, Barrash graduated from the University of Wyoming College of Law. He worked for the Wyoming Attorney General’s Office in the Department of Environmental Quality for 28 ½ years before retiring in 2014. Barrash was inspired to volunteer with Legal Aid of Wyoming after watching the “I’ll Do One” video presentation at a local bar meeting. The “I’ll Do One” campaign is a collaborative effort between the Bar and Equal Justice Wyoming to increase volunteer work by Wyoming’s attorneys.
Members of the public needing pro bono assistance should contact the Legal Advice and Intake Hotline at 877-432-9955.
