CHEYENNE ATTORNEY RECEIVES BAR’S PROFESSIONALISM AWARD
CHEYENNE – The Wyoming State Bar is pleased to announce that Cheyenne attorney Paul J. Hickey is this year’s recipient of its Gerald R. Mason Professionalism Award. The award was presented this week during the Bar’s Virtual Annual Meeting.
Hickey is the eleventh recipient of this annual award. The award was presented by Billie LM Addleman, President of the Wyoming State Bar.
The Professionalism Award is given to a Wyoming lawyer who represents the highest standards of ethics and dedication to the law, but also recognizes someone who contributes their time and energy to making the Wyoming Bar and its lawyers the best people they can be.
“Paul Hickey has dedicated his career to the practice of law in Wyoming and helping attorneys and law students pursue their own careers. Very few attorneys have done more or given more to the practice of law in Wyoming than Paul Hickey,” said Addleman. “Throughout the course of his career, Paul has been an ambassador and advocate for the attorneys in our state and the legal community,” Addleman added. “Most importantly, when the state bar, law school, judiciary or bar member needs assistance with a cause or endeavor, Paul is always the first to volunteer his time to help. He continues to be an incredible champion for our profession and its members.”
In addition to his service as President of the Wyoming State Bar (1998), Hickey served on countless committees and assisted with nonprofit endeavors supporting the bar and its members. For nearly two decades, Hickey served as the Chairman of University of Wyoming College of Law Dean’s Advisory Board. He currently serves on the Wyoming Lawyer Assistance Program Foundation and the Tenth Circuit Historical Society (President 2013).
Hickey is a founding member of the Cheyenne law firm of Hickey & Evans, LLP. After graduating from the University of Wyoming College of Law, Hickey clerked for the Honorable James E. Barrett, United States Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit. Following his clerkship, he worked as a prosecutor for the Laramie County Attorney. Over the course of his career, Hickey has had a substantial trial practice in both state and federal court and has represented many clients including regulated gas and electric utilities, nature gas producers, wind developers and interstate electric transmission projects.
In addition to being a member of the Wyoming State Bar, Hickey is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Bar Association Foundation. He has also served on the Wyoming Natural Gas Pipeline Authority (Chairman 1994), Permanent Civil Rules Committee, the Wyoming Water Development Commission (Chairman 1995), and helped raise funds for the College of Law, the Wyoming Supreme Court Judicial Learning Center and the Paul Smith Children’s Village. Outside the practice of law, Hickey enjoys spending time with his family and is a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
