Criminal Division AUSAs prosecute federal crimes committed in Wyoming, including violent crimes, drug trafficking, child exploitation, fraud and other white-collar offenses, firearms offenses, civil rights offenses, human trafficking, terrorism, public corruption, major crimes committed on the Wind River Indian Reservation, and petty offenses committed on federal property. As federal prosecutors, AUSAs advise law enforcement during investigations, make charging decisions, appear before the grand jury, research and write motions and other criminal pleadings, conduct hearings and jury trials, and defend convictions on appeal and collateral review.
The office has one opening for an experienced prosecutor to serve as an AUSA in the Criminal Division in our Cheyenne office. Due to the small number of Criminal Division AUSAs employed in the District of Wyoming, each AUSA handles a variety of cases and opportunities to specialize may be limited. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as training and experience progress.
All initial attorney positions to the Department of Justice are made on a 14-month (temporary) basis. Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

The Wyoming Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (WCADVSA) is a social change, non-profit, non-governmental organization that was founded in 1987 to support statewide needs of domestic violence and sexual assault (DVSA) programs, their communities, and survivors across Wyoming. The work of the WCADVSA is guided and supported by its staff and DVSA membership. Through a collective voice, we are committed to provide leadership, education, and system advocacy to advance social change and end violence. For the WCADVSA Legal Assistant position, hiring will be based on qualifications and organizational needs.
THE LEGAL program
The WCADVSA Legal Program is funded through a grant received from the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), Legal Assistance for Victims Grant Program. The Legal Program has been funded by OVW since 1998 in competitive grant cycles. Two Staff Attorney positions and a legal assistant position are funded to complete the grant goals, which include providing direct civil legal services on behalf of victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking statewide. This legal assistant position, located within the WCADVSA Legal Program’s main office in Laramie, will provide legal assistance and support to the legal staff consisting of up to two attorneys.
