KOLPITCKE APPOINTED TO WYOMING STATE BAR GOVERNING BOARD
CHEYENNE – The Wyoming State Bar is pleased to announce that Scott E. Kolpitcke, an attorney from Powell, Wyoming, has been appointed commissioner of the Wyoming State Bar to represent the Fifth Judicial District, which consists of Big Horn, Hot Springs, Park and Washakie Counties. Kolpitcke replaces Basin lawyer Jennifer Kirk who was elected Vice President of the organization. Kolpitcke will serve the remainder of Kirk’s term, which expires in September 2026.
Kolpitcke graduated from the University of Wyoming College of Law in 1996. During his third year in law school, he was the Student Director of the UW Legal Services Clinic. This clinical experience allowed him to gain experience representing indigent clients in civil matters under the supervision of the late Professor John M. Burman.
After passing the Wyoming and Colorado bar exams in 1996, Kolpitcke joined a small law firm in Laramie focused primarily on estate planning. Since 1998, he has practiced with the Powell firm of Copenhaver, Kitchen & Kolpitcke, where he represents school districts, cities, and individuals throughout Wyoming. He has successfully defended his clients in employment disputes before the EEOC, Labor Standards Division, Office for Civil Rights and other state and federal agencies. Kolpitcke regularly gives presentations to school boards, city councils and other organizations on issues related to school law, Title IX, employment law, government ethics and other issues.
Kolpitcke serves as a Wyoming Supreme Court-appointed member of the Character & Fitness Committee, which screens applicants to the Wyoming Bar to ensure they satisfy the requirements for becoming Wyoming attorneys. He also serves on the board of directors for the Moyer Foundation. When he is not working, Kolpitcke and his wife Linda enjoy spending time with their twins, Ryan and Kayla, and recreating in Wyoming’s mountains.
