Volunteer Opportunities for the Public

The Wyoming State Bar could not operate effectively without hundreds of lawyers, judges and laymembers who generously volunteer their time to serve on numerous Boards and Committees. The Bar is always recruiting volunteers to serve on these Boards and Committees. There are opportunities for members of the public (non-attorneys) to serve on three of these committees. Those committees are:

  1. Board of Continuing Legal Education
The purpose of this board is to set and interpret rules and policies concerning mandatory continuing legal education for lawyers who practice in Wyoming. The board also certifies accreditation and reporting procedures. Members of this Board are appointed by the Wyoming Supreme Court for three-year terms.
  2. Board of Professional Responsibility
The purpose of this board is to receive, docket and investigate complaints of attorney misconduct and conduct hearings as warranted. The board operates on behalf of the Wyoming Supreme Court. It may administer reprimands in less serious instances or misconduct. For more serious or repeated misconduct, it may recommend imposition of public discipline to the Wyoming Supreme Court. Members of this Board are appointed by the Wyoming Supreme Court for three-year terms.
  3. Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee
This committee investigates allegations of the unauthorized practice of law in Wyoming and may initiate litigation in district courts for injunctive relief or criminal contempt proceedings. The committee may also make recommendations to the Wyoming Supreme Court. Members of this Board are appointed by the Wyoming Supreme Court for three-year terms.

If you are interested in volunteering to serve on one of these boards/committees, please click here and submit your application for consideration. Expressions of interest are due on October 1, 2014.  Any questions can be directed to Sharon Wilkinson, Executive Director, at (307) 432-2102.
